What We Do .

To realize programme goals, DBI Foundation utilizes an approach that integrates and acknowledges both technical OVC service delivery and organizational capacity development. Moreover, DBI adheres to the principles of community-based responses, empowerment and skills transfer, child participation, and the greater involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS

In addition to OVC short term needs, DBI tries to ensure long-term safety and stability for children by assisting them academically. This is done through the kids clubs where children are helped with their homework and through Africare funded program, provide uniforms, stationeries and other educational materials. DBI’s OVC programme
also facilitates waiver of school fees
for OVC, so lack of finances is not a barrier to education.

Aside from the physical absence of a parent, or the pain and suffering induced by AIDS related illness, far more difficult to deal with are the emotional wounds that are brought on by HIV and AIDS. As such psychosocial counseling forms an integral part of DBI’s OVC programme. Children are also offered psychosocial care through kids clubs, where they have the opportunity to share and draw support from children in similar circumstances.

These are carried out in communities to raise awareness about OVC, HIV and AIDS. Through these activities, communities are enlightened as to the services available to them, signs of vulnerability in children around them, and life skills to prevent HIV contraction.
